On March 14, the world woke up in shock with the news of the tragedy had just hit countries such as Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Madagascar and South Africa. More than 2.5 million people have experienced the direct effects of Cyclone Idai, with hundreds of thousands needing help. Children, the elderly, women, men, institutions, houses, were completely swept away by this devastating Cyclone.

According to data from the Red Cross of Mozambique, about 794,000 people are in very critical situation, over 500 people died dead and about 1.85 million people have now been affected by Cyclone Idai  and its aftermath in Mozambique alone.

Faced with this tragic situation, Cabo Verde could not just stand by and watch it happen, so Mrs. Lígia Fonseca, First Lady of Cabo Verde, who is also a national from Mozambique, is calling upon the civil society and institutions, and to the Cabo Verdean Diaspora, to help the affected small Cabo Verdeans community and people of Mozambique, living in Beira city and surroundings.
